In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in San Diego; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in California are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.
The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. The most common schedule is 11:30 amโ10 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. San Diego is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around San Diego is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Must visit spot if you're into Japanese hotpot, phenomenal service, and just a great vibe. This place is on my last meal list. Not only for the food but the staff. It feels like I'm family when I visit. They are so welcoming and hospitable. My favorite broth is the Mongolian, it's medium spiced and a flavor bomb ๐ฃ. I love all the delicious vegetables, seafood, and delicious meats. The Desert station with the shaved ice is a perfect finish to the meal. They also have unlimited soda and a variety of teas and drinks as well. Special shout out specifically to Suki & Raymond, they're the best servers at Shabu-Works in my opinion. They're the true reason I keep coming back to Shabu-Works. Thank you for always taking good care of our hungry stomachs and keeping those beautiful smiles on your faces. Positive Shabu-Shabu soup vibrations!

I stop by this restaurant on my vacation. Overall the restaurant looks spacious. Parking is limited but manageable. Cleanliness is ok. Staff are helpful. The food overall is ok. The food selection for the hot pot is basic. There is no desert. They only have shave ice. The meats are fresh. However, The broth and the sauce are the most importance thing. This restaurant couldnโt meet my minimum expectations for these two key things. That is why I rated this restaurant 1 start.

Love the multiple varieties of soup base selections! Love the tender chuck eye, chuck tender, and top blade! Ordered the seafood platter at extra cost to celebrate a milestone. Fresh and big size! Tommy, our server, was excellent. Came at the appropriate time to pickup finished plates and took meat orders until we were full. Visited once for lunch and once for dinner. We found our new favorite hotpot restaurant. Will visit again!

My family and I often visit here. Embarrassing to say, we go her at least once/twice a week. Itโs convenient and I donโt have to deal with any cooking and cleaning. You can say itโs one of our favorite places to eat. Customer service is always superb and the meats are tasty with many selections to choose from. Our favorite manager is Suki . She always has a smile on her face as well as her fellow managers and co-workers. They always greets us with the warmest smile when we come. Applying and getting the membership card is so beneficial for us considering how much money we saved at every visit.

This was my first hot-pot experience and WOWโฆ I fear I may have unlocked a new food obsessionโฆI ordered more beef after being totally fullโฆoh the gluttony! Everything was phenomenal from start to finish. We were seated quickly, the service was great, and the quality of the meats was excellent. All of the meats were sliced perfectly, the soup bases were flavorful and comforting, and the condiments, veggies, and sides were all fresh and delicious. I also loved how easy the whole experience was even as a first-timer, yes we had friends who are experienced with hot-pot to guide is but the staff was helpful and everything was well organized. I highly recommend this spot for a date night, family gathering, or honestly just a random weeknight when you want to treat yourself. The pricing was very reasonable and you definitely get more than what you pay for. I would happily come back and accidentally eat way too much again! ๐
